Three Distinguished Educators Named Finalists for 2026 Kansas Superintendent of the Year Award

Topeka, Kansas — The Kansas School Superintendents’ Association is proud to announce the finalists for the 2026 Kansas Superintendent of the Year award, honoring exemplary leadership in education. The finalists, Dr. Jessica Dain, Dr. Reginald Eggleston, and Mr. Jamie Rumford, have each demonstrated unparalleled dedication and innovation in advancing educational standards and community engagement within their respective districts.

Dr. Jessica Dain has served as the Superintendent of Piper USD 203 since 2020. Prior to that, she served as Assistant Superintendent in Olathe, Director of Teaching and Learning and Elementary Principal in De Soto, and Middle School Principal and Assistant Principal in Blue Valley. Dr. Dain received her Bachelor of Science in Secondary English and K-12 Physical Education as well as her Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Emporia State University. She has also received her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from St. Louis University. She has served on the KSSA Board of Directors, the AASA Governing Board, and is currently serving on the AASA Executive Committee. 

Dr. Dain has been an influential leader in educational reform. Her tenure has been marked by significant advancements in academic achievement and community involvement. Dr. Dain's innovative programs and policy contributions have garnered national recognition, including the National School Public Relations Association Golden Achievement Award and the Kansas Department of Education Purple Star Distinction. Her commitment to education is further evidenced by her mentorship roles in the AASA and KSSA networks, shaping the future generation of educational leaders.

Dr. Reginald Eggleston has served as the Superintendent of Geary County USD 475 since 2019. Prior to that, he served as the Chief Administrative Office for the Alabama State Department of Education. Previous roles include Assistant Superintendent, Director of Special Education, Principal, Assistant Principal, and Special Education Teacher. Dr. Eggleston received his Bachelor’s of Science from Troy University, his Master’s of Education from the University of Alabama in Birmingham, an Educational Specialist degree from Auburn University in Montgomery, and his Doctorate in Education from Nova Southeastern University.

Dr. Eggleston has overseen transformative initiatives that address the academic, social, and emotional needs of students. Under his leadership, the district has received acknowledgments such as the Blue Ribbon Schools designation, demonstrating his commitment to educational excellence.His strategic vision includes robust financial planning and community partnerships, ensuring sustainable success and equity for over 7,000 students and 1,300 faculty members.

Jamie Rumford has served as Superintendent of Scott County USD 466 since 2014. Prior to that, he served as an elementary principal in Cheney USD 268. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education as well as his Master’s Degree in Education Administration from Fort Hays State University. He has also received a District Level Endorsement in Education Administration from Wichita State University. He has been a KSSA board member, also serving as president of the organization. He has also been a recipient of the Dr. Doug Moeckel Distinguished Service Award.

Mr. Rumford has been recognized for his forward-thinking approach that bridges traditional values with modern educational techniques. His leadership has introduced critical programs that enhance student and teacher experiences, including trauma-informed training and strategic recruitment incentives. His deep ties to Kansas and dedication to fostering educational excellence exemplify his impact on his community.

The 2026 Kansas Superintendent of the year will be announced on Monday, October 6, live on the USA-Kansas Facebook page. The 3 finalists and the winner will be recognized at the 2026 Superintendent of the Year Gala on November 13 in Wichita.
